HWTI @ 125( HOPE WADDELL INSTITUTE CLOCKS 125YEARS

Hope Waddell Training Institute. Founded 1885, is one of the  first schools to be established East Nigeria and among the top 5 oldest school in contemporary Nigeria It’s contributions to Nigeria and beyond are numerous. This includes governance, politics, arts, science and sports. The first recorded football match in Nigeria was played in Hope Waddell on June 15, 1904 between the school team and the crew of the English Naval Ship HMS DWARF.
 



  In celebration of it’s 125 years of existence & impact, the national executive of the Hope Waddell Old. Student  Association rolled out plan of events and project slated to hold between 2nd-8th of Match, 2020. 


 
All events took place as planned starting with a press conference, culminating with a road show/ carnival train, after high powered well attended AGM. 


The highpoint of the events was the dinner and grand launch of the 125 Million endowment fund which had the president of Nigeria President M.Buhari as it’s Chief guest of honour was represented by the SGF Mr Boss Mustapha, Other Guest of honour Like the Chief of Naval staff AVM Ibok Ette( an old boy)

HWOSA LAGOS: A GREAT AWAKENING

“Who would true velour see, Let him come hither “The above line is the first sentence extracted from the anthem of a glorious citadel of learning which has wrought about great minds and leaders and influential exponents in the past and until date. But specifically the above line speaks of true picture of the citadel old student’s association branch in Lagos. Hope Waddel Old Students Association branch in Lagos, had a candle off period that no voice was heard or impact, until it revive itself with advent of a notable legal luminary and a business merchant as the current national president, Bar Effioita Ephraim aka (The Baron) and it his instance also rajig the Lagos branch with new spirit which with a new well conducted election brought about young vibrant executives headed by the Lagos branch president, Mr Edwin Okon, a banker, a business man per excellence. This new developments did not just bring finest but culminated into a powerful reunion of all agrieved and non-agrieved, new members to a high wired "end of year dinner” held at a Prestigious hotel Ikoyi with massive attendance. At this event, all and Sundry pledged to move the association branch (Lagos) forward and none will/shall relent and from there the fire has been burning. kudos to the National President and Excos and also kudos to the branch President and Excos. You all rock “there is no discouragement”

HOPE WADDELL OLD STUDENT ASSOCIATION

Hope Waddell Training Institution is one of the very first schools to be established East of Nigeria and among the top 5 oldest schools in contemporary Nigeria. Its contribution to Nigeria and beyond is numerous. This includes governance, politics, art, science and sports. The first recorded football match in Nigeria was played in Hope Waddell on June 15, 1904, between the school team and the crew of the English Naval Ship HMS Dwarf. The match was a culmination of the efforts of the school’s principal, the Rev James Kerr Luke who introduced the game called “Calabar Game” into the school sometimes in 1903. Hope Waddell has a long array of notable alumni foremost Nigerian Politicians, nationalists Jurists, academics and technocrats such as Nigeria’s pioneer president, Dr Nnamdi Azikwe; Prof Eyo Ita (elected leader of the then eastern Nigeria Government 195 ); Dr. Akanu Ibiam (Governor of Eastern Nigeria 1960-1966); Dennis Osadebey Mbadiwe ( First Republic minister) Chief S. Adeniran Ogunsanya; then Secretary to Lagos State Government and pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Eni Njoku and current Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas who has lived the dream of the school Hope Waddell prides itself as having two of its old students (Dr Nnamdi Azikwe and Alvan Ikoku) on Nigeria’s currency just as two of the country’s International airports (Nnamdi Azikwe, Abuja and Akanu Ibiam, Enugu) are named after its old students.
